Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General Suharyanto, has ensured facilities for participants with disabilities at the 2022 Indonesia's Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR).

The 2022 GPDRR will be held on May 23-28, 2022, in Bali.

"We also ensure that facilities for people with disabilities will comprise access, taxis, information with braille letters, accommodation, and others," Suharyanto, who is the GPDRR 2022 National Committee Vice Chairman I, stated here on Friday.

He explained that the GPDRR 2022 National Committee also guarantees accommodation for disabled participants at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre and other recommended lodging.

Suharyanto also said his side along with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) guarantees meeting special transportation needs for people using wheelchairs.

To support smooth service for disabled participants, the national committee and UNDRR will offer courses to all volunteers and local staff during the event in Nusa Dua, Bali.

As of Tuesday, April 5, Suharyanto noted that at least 200 participants with disabilities had registered for the event.

Meanwhile, the UNDRR had recorded 2,631 registered participants, with 73 percent of them saying they will likely be present face-to-face or on-site. These participants come from government, non-government, business, and academic backgrounds.

Suharyanto confirmed that 17 foreign journalists had registered and were currently awaiting validations from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The BNPB will also prepare an invitation letter for the foreign journalists.

Furthermore, Suharyanto advised the editors-in-chief of mass media as well as journalist participants to register to be able to access the GPDRR event. Journalists must register no later than April 15, 2022.
