Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry has readied three traffic schemes that will be implemented in the transportation system for the 2022 Eid exodus.

"From what we have discussed, it has been stated that we have three types of scenarios. It can be applied starting on the 28th or it could be the 25th," Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, stated after a coordination meeting that discussed about traffic simulation and anticipatory measures to handle peak time at toll roads during the 2022 Eid exodus at the Jasa Marga Office, Cikampek Utama Toll Gate, on Friday.

Minister Sumadi listed contra flow, one way, and odd-even policy to be applied on toll roads.

The minister noted that the land transportation sector was a crucial aspect to consider in ensuring the smooth flow of the homecoming traffic since based on a survey conducted by the Transportation Research and Development Agency, some 47 percent of the 85.5 million people forecast to partake in the yearly homecoming would use land routes, both users of private vehicles, such as cars and motorbikes, as well as means of land transportation, such as buses.

"We admit that Cipali or from Jakarta to Semarang is the area that is most (prone to issues), so a traffic scheme is needed," he remarked.

The ministry has expedited efforts to conduct accurate simulation calculations that follow the conditions in practice, he stated.

He also urged stakeholders to handle technical matters pertaining to traffic engineering, so that it could be recommended to President Joko Widodo.

Sumadi emphasized the need for good anticipatory measures to be taken, as it was possible that people partaking in the exodus were not only those visiting their hometowns but also those looking to go on vacations.

The minister expressed his commitment to pushing for better coordination with stakeholders in 2022, such as with the Traffic Corps and regional governments, to ensure everyone was on the same page about travel requirements, traffic control, and other policies.

Attendees at the meeting comprised Secretariat of Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Satya Sanaugraha; Head of Traffic Corps, Inspector General Firman Santyabudi; President Director of Jasa Marga, Subakti Syukur; Director of BPJT Danang Parikesit; President Director of PT Jasa Raharja, Rivan Achmad Purwantono; Director General of Land Transportation, Budi Setiyadi; and spokesperson for the Transportation Ministry, Adita Irawati.
