Jakarta (ANTARA) - Disaster Preparedness Day (HKB) is an effort to develop a nation based on disaster risk reduction, Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto stated during the online 2022 HKB event on Tuesday.

The 2022 HKB, falling on Tuesday, is also an effort to develop the nation's resiliency and to build a disaster awareness character as well as culture from an early age that the people must cultivate.

As a stakeholder at the central level, the BNPB conducts disaster mitigation steps, starting from prevention to emergency response and post-disaster stages.

Building a resilient nation is not impossible, especially when there is strong collective support and commitment, according to Suharyanto.

Moreover, building resilience through preparedness and development of a disaster awareness culture cannot be accomplished by the government alone.

"It necessitates pentahelix collaboration from various parties, specifically the central government, regional governments, business institutions, academicians, and the community," he stressed.

This strength can serve as a major force to develop a civilization based on disaster risk reduction, Suharyanto remarked.

The eve of Disaster Preparedness Day was held at the Ledok Sari Balerante Park, Klaten, Central Java.

It was marked by the sounding of the siren at 10 a.m. local time for one minute as a symbol of the start of preparedness steps.

In addition, self-evacuation training was undertaken in several regions.

These regions comprise Tlogolele Village, Boyolali, Central Java; Klakah Village, Boyolali; Kemiren Village, Magelang, Central Java; Balerante Village, Klaten, Central Java.
