Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II has deployed 700 personnel drawn from various airport stakeholders to secure the Eid al-Fitr return traffic at Soekarno Hatta Airport.

"All operational and security officers from various airport institutions are on stand by until May 10, 2022," president director of the company, Muhammad Awaludin, said at the airport here on Saturday.

The officers will be deployed at a number of terminals at the airport, he added.

The peak of the Eid return traffic is expected to occur on May 8, he said.

During the peak traffic period, Soekarno Hatta Airport is expected to handle 137,734 passengers and 932 flights.

However, a surge in traffic has already been recorded since May 5, with more than 135 thousand passengers and 1,012 flights arriving and departing from Soekarno Hatta Airport.

Most of the passengers arriving at the airport have come from Denpasar city (Bali province), Medan city (North Sumatra province), Makassar city (South Sulawesi province), Surabaya city (East Java province), and Padang city (West Sumatra province), the president director noted.

He said that AP II will continue to monitor and remain vigilant during the peak traffic period in collaboration with all stakeholders.

Overall, he informed, the level of on-time performance (OTP) of the flights has reached 90.49 percent as of May 7.

He said that to anticipate large crowds at Soekarno Hatta Airport due to the increasing number of passengers, AP II has prepared terminals 1B (domestic terminal) and 2F (international terminal) for the Eid al-Fitr returning period.

Earlier, on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, both terminals had been temporarily closed due to a decline in the number of flights.
