"By using the reference standards set out in each SNI document, it will be very helpful to achieve the minimum standards of quality and uniformity of goods/services produced for disaster mitigation efforts in related areas," BSN's 13-08 Technical Commission head, Udrekh, said here on Tuesday.
The development of national disaster mitigation standards has mainly been motivated by the need for minimum standard references for several parties in carrying out disaster mitigation, he explained.
A total of 23 disaster-related SNIs have been created between 2011 and 2022, of which one SNI has been revised and issued, which is SNI ISO 22301: 2019, established by BSN in 2021, he pointed out.
The 23 SNIs include SNI 7743:2011 on tsunami evacuation signs, SNI 7766:2012 on tsunami evacuation routes, SNI 8288:2017 on disaster mitigation training, and SNI 8357:2017 on disaster-resilient villages.
SNI 8357: 2017 on disaster-resilient villages stipulates the indicators of resilient villages against disasters, which have been divided into basic and results indicators.

Basic indicators comprise strengthening the quality and access to basic services, such as access to formal and non-formal education, health services, as well as transportation accessibility and facilities.
Meanwhile, the results indicators consist of strengthening disaster risk management where villages have access to the results of regional studies on disaster perspectives, knowledge and skills, and community action on disaster risk management.
The 13-08 Technical Committee of BSN was formed in 2011 to formulate and compile SNIs in the field of disaster mitigation.
The committee’s scope refers to ISO/TC 292, or security and resilience, or the standardization of the security sector, which is aimed at improving the safety and resilience of the community.
