Jambi (ANTARA) - Athletes from Jambi Province contributed 11 medals for the Indonesian contingent comprising three gold, six silver, and two bronze on the ninth day after the SEA Games Vietnam's opening.

Chairman of the Jambi National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI), Budi Setiawan, remarked that the medals came from the Rowing, Wushu, and 3x3 Basketball sports branches.

"There are eight athletes from Jambi that strengthen the Indonesian contingent and three golds were won by the Jambi rowing athletes," Setiawan noted in Jambi on Saturday.

Athletes from Jambi that successfully contributed gold medals are M. Ali Mardiansyah in the men's rowing lightweight quadruple sculls, Joko Andriyanto in the men's kayak four 1,000m event, and Dedi Saputra in the men's canoe four 500m event, he pointed out.

Saputra also bagged a silver medal in the kayak four 1,000m event, while two other silver medals were won by Riska Andriyani in the women's canoe single 1,000m and the women's canoe single 500m events.

Moreover, another talented young Jambi athlete Mutiara Rahma Putri also won two silvers, each in the women's lightweight quadruple sculls of the rowing match and the women's lightweight double sculls event.

In the Wushu branch, women's Wushu athlete Melisa Try Andani won a silver in the san shou or sanda 56 kg competition.

Bronze medals were won by Nathania Claresta Orville from the women's 3x3 basketball team and Davita Safitri from the women's canoe double 1000m event.

"Thank you for the achievements of Jambi's athletes, who strengthened the (position of the) Indonesian contingent in the Vietnam SEA Games, and for these achievements, (I) personally provided honorarium to all athletes, who won medals on behalf of Indonesia at the international event," Setiawan stated.

Setiawan explained that the victories of the Jambi athletes in the Sea Games Vietnam are expected to be a source of motivation for other athletes, especially in competing in the 2024 National Sports Week (PON) in North Sumatra-Aceh.
