If possible, have the race 10 to 15 times every year (at the circuit). It would be better
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was all praises for Formula E, calling it the race of the future since competing race cars were all fueled by sustainable electrical energy.

The president noted that electric vehicles in the race are emblematic of Indonesia's industrial direction aimed at developing electric cars and their components.

"I believe this is the race of the future because there will be a shift from the common (fossil fuel-based vehicle) to electric cars. Hence, this kind of event will be more popular in the future," Jokowi stated after observing the 2022 Jakarta e-Prix, being part of the 2021-22 Formula E championship season, in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Saturday.

Indonesia is currently developing the electric car industry ecosystem through the industrialisation of nickel processing and the development of nickel smelter, lithium battery industry, and electric car factories, the president noted.

He remarked that Formula E had also served as the medium to introduce electric car technologies and the environment-friendly vehicle industry.

"I think the technology showcased (during the race) is consistent with our direction for environmentally-friendly (development)," he remarked.

Jokowi then commended the 2022 Jakarta e-Prix that had been organized smoothly in the newly-opened Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit in North Jakarta and expressed optimism that the circuit would again host another race event in future.

"If possible, have the race 10 to 15 times every year (at the circuit). It would be better," the president remarked.

The president was accompanied by House of Representatives (DPR RI) Speaker Puan Maharani, Chief Championship Officer and founder of Formula E Alberto Longo, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Indonesia Motor Association (IMI) Chairperson BambangSoesatyo, and Jakarta e-Prix organising committee head Ahmad Sahroni while observing the electric car race.
