Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director of Telecommunications at the Directorate General of Post and Informatics at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Aju Widyasari outlined five leading sectors to accelerate 5G network penetration in Indonesia.

The five sectors are the residential sector, specifically housing with fixed wireless access; industrial and manufacturing areas with an automatic system; high-risk mining; health; and tourism.

"The sector that needs 5G network the most is residential. One of the use cases of 5G network is enhanced mobile broadband and faster internet access with high-speed capacity," Widyasari noted during a virtual discussion, Tuesday.

The second is followed by the industrial area and manufacturing with an automatic system. Industrial area, with all the manufacturing tenants, requires an industrial process with technology that can support productivity, she added.

In the mining sector, Widyasari conveyed that sensors, with high-internet speed, were needed to support the mining process. Meanwhile, in the health sector, 5G technology was required to support remote treatment to remote monitoring.

Lastly, in the tourism sector, the 5G network is needed for virtualization of tourist attractions to attract potential domestic and foreign tourists.

The main target of 5G network technology is a slicing network that supports machine-to-machine and low-latency services for applications or other services to support industrial activities.

To support the 5G network ecosystem in Indonesia, Widyasari called for collaboration from all stakeholders. Currently, telecommunication providers have made breakthroughs to test 4G/5G private networks or sign private network service collaborations with their customers.

One example is Telkomsel's collaboration with Freeport in the implementation of 5G network in mining. In addition, Telkomsel has collaborated with Schneider in Batam and the Jababeka industrial area.

"Not only Telkomsel, PT XL Axiata has also collaborated with NTT Ltd to build private cloud-based information technology infrastructure," she added.
