Each must play a role according to their expertise. Each must play a role according to their excellence. Later, they must cooperate, collaborate, and synergize to once again produce grand work.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Mutual help (gotong royong) is Indonesia's strategy to face the global competition, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated on Tuesday.

"I think Indonesia's strategy to face competition in future is mutual help," the president noted while opening the national working meeting of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta.

The mutual help reflected the teachings of Indonesia's first president Soekarno, Jokowi remarked.

"I remember the teachings of Bung Karno about mutual help. Mutual help is an endeavor. Mutual help is charity. Mutual help is creating. Mutual help is work to produce grand work or great achievement," he stated.

Everybody wished for the same thing, grand work, he affirmed.

"Doesn't everybody do the same thing? But Bung Karno said mutual help is working hard together. Mutual help is struggling to help each other, build a power together," he stated.

Likewise, to build a nation, Indonesia as a great nation must prioritize mutual help, according to Jokowi.

"Each must play a role according to their expertise. Each must play a role according to their excellence. Later, they must cooperate, collaborate, and synergize to once again produce grand work," he stated.

Currently, uncertainty is engulfing all countries, he pointed out.

"The world is in extreme difficulty. We really know what is the problem now. The world is really not in an easy situation now. We have experienced several crises. However, this time, the crises come again and again," he stated.

The crises arise in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ukraine-Russia war, food crisis, energy crisis, and financial crisis, he remarked.

"Without mutual help, we will find it hard to face global competition. The current crisis almost affects the upstream to downstream sectors. We compete not only in the economic and business fields but also in human resources, science and technology fields, including the competition that we are experiencing now to face the global food and energy crises," he stated.

He called on PDIP cadres to help each other in building self-reliance in food production.

"Self-reliance in food production, food sovereignty, and food resilience must become the focus of our endeavors in the future. Each region must have excellent food according to the land characteristics of their region, the condition of their community, and the eating tradition of their residents," he remarked.
