Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) met with the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) at the KPK Building here on Wednesday to discuss efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia.

"This meeting discusses efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia, particularly related to convictions for criminal acts of corruption," Acting spokesperson of the KPK Ali Fikri stated.

Attendees at the meeting comprised leaders of the KPK Alexander Marwata and Nurul Ghufron, as well as Head of the Legal Affairs Bureau at the KPK, Ahmad Burhanudin; the director of prosecution at the KPK, Fitroh Rohcahyanto; and representative of the prosecutors at the KPK.

Fikri affirmed that the commission lauded ICW's initiative, as the discourse and input from various parties, especially the civil society, were deemed crucial to improve the commission's consistent efforts to eradicate corruption.

"The input is also a form of public participation in eradicating corruption so as to encourage public confidence in the (progress) of corruption eradication in Indonesia," he remarked.

ICW's inputs include the trend of taking action against corruption by law enforcement agencies, one of which was through the recovery of assets from corrupt acts or the recovery of assets by the commission.

Fikri emphasized that his institution continued to improve the management of assets acquired from corruption, such as by auctioning confiscated objects without having to wait for court decisions as well as the application of articles on money laundering and corporate crimes.

"The Corruption Eradication Commission also always uses the report on the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center analysis and the report on the results of the National Audit Board examination to trace assets resulting from corruption," he stated.

The commission also lauded ICW's efforts in disseminating anti-corruption values. ICW had been running anti-corruption education programs for the community through the anti-corruption academy in order to inform people about efforts to tackle it, such as monitoring village budgets, public services, and corruption in corporations.

Fikri believes that efforts to eradicate corruption could not be singlehandedly made by the commission but rather required active participation and support from everyone.

"So far, the commission has always received various inputs, criticisms, and suggestions in an effort to eradicate corruption more optimally. The Corruption Eradication Commission and ICW agree that corruption eradication must be carried out on all aspects, not only through prosecution but also through preventive measures and anti-corruption education," he concluded.
