Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry and state-run Universitas Terbuka (UT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in South Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday to improve Indonesian human resources' quality and boost their competency in various fields.

When it comes to manpower, the question is how to prepare human resources who have competency in their fields that matches the demand of the world of work, the ministry's secretary general, Anwar Sanusi, stated.

The educational world is currently under pressure to change the conventional learning system into something more modern, dynamic, and inclusive, without reducing the standard of quality for the results that have been set.

Universitas Terbuka, as a campus that pioneers the remote learning system, has a history of more than three decades of producing quality and competent human resources in various fields.

As a country with the largest number of migrant workers that are spread across the world, the government is seeking to send Indonesian migrant workers with a high level of education to placement countries.

"The country certainly has to be able to provide alternative education so that these workers can feel what high education is like," Sanusi remarked.

The Manpower Ministry has already informed placement countries to allow Indonesian migrant workers to learn, and the model developed by Universitas Terbuka is a model wherein students can learn at any time.

"The time flexibility in learning given by Universitas Terbuka is already very good," he said.

Earlier, Rector of Universitas Terbuka, Ojat Darojat, said in Pondok Cabe, Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday, that the university is encouraging and actively involving itself in the expansion of high education access for people.

While COVID-19 has triggered the current pandemic, it has also bolstered the development of remote learning within the country, he noted.
