Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his entourage landed at Soewondo Air Base, Medan city, North Sumatra, at 4:05 p.m. local time (UTC+7) on Tuesday for a working visit.

According to a photograph released by the press bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, the President and First Lady Iriana Jokowi were received by the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, and his wife.

They were also welcomed by Commander of I/Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command, Major General Achmad Daniel Chardin, and his wife; North Sumatra Regional Police chief, Inspector General R.Z. Panca Putra Simanjuntak, and his wife; Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution; as well as Commander of Soewondo Air Base, Colonel Reka Budiarsa, and his wife.

Upon arriving in Medan city, the President and his entourage went to their lodging to stay the night. The President is scheduled to carry out a number of activities as part of a series of working visits, starting Wednesday.

One of the areas that the President is scheduled to visit is the Nias Islands, head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, informed when contacted from here on Tuesday.

"(We will review) which areas need road development as well as see the road infrastructures which are under construction and the ones which are in the planning stage," he stated.

In addition to reviewing infrastructure, the President is also planning to visit a market to disburse social assistance to people, he added.

The governor of North Sumatra, through his Instagram account @edy_rahmayadi, also highlighted Widodo’s agenda while sharing some photos of him welcoming the head of state.

"If God wills, President @jokowi will visit the Nias Islands, meet the recipients of the Family Hope Program assistance at Petisah Market in Medan City, review the Palm Oil Research Center, (commemorate) National Family Day, inaugurate the revitalization of Medan Merdeka Square, as well as review the floating houses in Belawan…," Rahmayadi informed.
