Inclusive means digital infrastructure access is available for everyone and digital space can be used in a safe and productive manner
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) is committed to furthering the discussion on cross-sectoral digital economy to realize an inclusive, empowering, and sustainable digital ecosystem transformation, DEWG Head Mira Tayyiba has said.

"Inclusive means digital infrastructure access is available for everyone and digital space can be used in a safe and productive manner," she explained during the ‘B20-G20 Dialogue: Digitalization Task Force,’ which has held online on Thursday.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

The DEWG is one of the working groups of the G20 that focuses on issues regarding the digital economy and highlights the role of digital transformation on economic and social growth.

According to Tayyiba, empowerment means that digital transformation is capable of raising people's living standards, including of vulnerable groups, by developing their digital skills and literacy.

Meanwhile, sustainable means digital transformation that aligns with sustainable development goals, she added.

DEWG is advocating people-centered digital connectivity, Tayyiba said. The group has underlined the importance of resilient connectivity based on access, availability, and affordability, infrastructure readiness, and responsible and meaningful digital connectivity utilization.

"All of this is to unite digital public services to reach sustainable development goals and expedite post-COVID-19 recovery, " she explained.

The DEWG is also encouraging cooperation between innovation actors, such as startups, venture capitalists, corporations, and the government, to support digital innovation and with the industry for digital technology transformation.

"The two initiatives are being held as part of the Digital Innovative Network that will be unveiled in September and the digital transformation exhibition in November," she informed.

Considering that digitalization is cross-sectoral in nature, collaboration among stakeholders, including academicians, businesses, and the government, must be developed further, Tayyiba said.

"I believe that this form of collaboration will allow the government to establish fair and practical policies and create a better policy space in the digital sector," she added.
