Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to perform the 1443 Hijri/2022 Eid al-Adha prayer on Sunday (July 10, 2022) at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta.

"Tomorrow (Sunday), God willing, the President and (First Lady) Mrs. Iriana will carry out the Eid al-Adha prayer along with the community at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta," head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, informed here on Saturday.

The Eid al-Adha prayer at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta will be led by the imam of the mosque, Salim Ghazali.

Meanwhile, the Eid al-Adha sermon will be delivered by chairman of the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), K.H. Mohammad Nuh, and will be themed "The Spirit of Mutual Cooperation Unites Diversity.”

The prayer will also be attended by a number of government officials and ministers from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.

"The ambassadors of friendly countries and representatives from various Islamic mass organizations, God willing, will (also) attend (the prayer)," Hartono said.

As part of the Eid al-Adha celebrations, President Widodo has presented a Qurbani (sacrificial) animal, a Simmental cow weighing one ton, to Istiqlal Mosque.

In addition, he has sent 34 cows to provinces as community assistance. The Presidential Secretariat has asked each governor to determine the mosque that would receive the Qurbani animal assistance.

“One cow weighed at least 800 kilograms to one ton," Hartono added.

Earlier, he had informed that a sacrificial cow readied to be slaughtered in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province weighed 1.4 tons.

Meanwhile, deputy chairperson of the worship implementation division of Istiqlal Mosque, Abu Hurairah, said that his party will not slaughter Qurbani animals on Eid al-Adha day.

"We will slaughter the sacrificial animals on Monday (July 11) morning," he added.

Earlier, deputy for administration and management of the Presidential Palace at the Presidential Secretariat, Rika Kiswardani, had said that Eid al-Adha is expected to become a momentum to encourage the economy of local cattle farmers.

Hence, all Qurbani animals provided by the President have been purchased from local breeders, she added.
