Mataram, NTB (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) holds the XX National Research and Innovation Youth Week (PIRN) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province on July 11-16, 2022, to discover quality and highly competitive young talents.

Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko conveyed the statement at the opening of the XX PIRN bearing the theme of Blue Green Economy at the Graha Bakti Building of the NTB Governor's Office here on Monday.

PIRN Week is a research-oriented, open-field scientific activity on social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering technology for junior and senior high school students as well as the teachers.

The BRIN head noted that implementation of the event is one of the attempts to identify young talents for the future of the research and innovation sector.

"In fact, in various regions, there are several (hidden) superior potential talents, who do not have the opportunity to showcase (their abilities)," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, BRIN's Acting Deputy for Science and Technology Human Resources, Edy Giri Rachman Putra, stated that PIRN participants would partake in a series of activities, such as training for writing scientific papers for junior and senior high school students.

In addition, teachers and students can tour BRIN’s Marine and Land Bio Industry Research Center (PR BILD).

At the laboratory, students will also conduct a biological data analysis and have a workshop on animation creation and science education from an education media platform ‘Kok Bisa?’.

Meanwhile, teachers can partake in the Local Knowledge Acquisition Dissemination as well as Science Education Awards (SEA) from the Institute Toray Science Foundation (ITSF).

The ITSF SEA Awards have been held since 1994, with the objective of encouraging Indonesian teachers to implement creative learning that increases the students' interest and understanding of science.

The PIRN was organized by the Directorate of Talent Management of BRIN in collaboration with the NTB provincial government.

Handoko and Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, Zulkieflimansyah, officially inaugurated the event.

PIRN involved 409 participants comprising 102 teachers and 207 students from 28 provinces across Indonesia as well as 100 college students from NTB Province.
