Hence, in implementing its duties, the KPK will not only observe the law but also ethical codes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri has reaffirmed the commission's commitment to continuing with anti-corruption duties despite the resignation of one of its deputy heads, Lili Pintauli Siregar.

Before she resigned, Siregar was being investigated by the KPK Supervisory Board for allegedly receiving gratification in the form of accommodation facilities and tickets from a state-owned company to visit and observe the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara, last March.

"KPK is committed to continue performing anti-corruption duties according to law and synergize with all stakeholders and the public through education, prevention, and enforcement measures," Bahuri said here on Monday.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed Presidential Decision No. 71/P of 2022 finalizing the termination of Siregar as KPK deputy head on Monday (July 11, 2022), he added.

According to the provisions of Law No. 19 of 2009 regulating the institution, the President will propose her replacement to the parliament in case of a leadership vacancy, the KPK head said.

The KPK Supervisory Board's action against Siregar is also part of a measure to enhance corruption eradication efforts by the commission, he added.

"Hence, in implementing its duties, the KPK will not only observe the law but also ethical codes," Bahuri said.

He then expressed his gratitude to residents for continuing to contribute to anti-corruption activities.

"We also express our gratitude to Lili Pintauli Siregar for work during her tenure as KPK deputy head," he added.

Earlier, the KPK Supervisory Board had declared that disciplinary action brought against Siregar was dismissed as moot following the enactment of Presidential Decision No. 71/P of 2022.

Chair of the supervisory committee's Ethics Court, Tumpak Hatorangan, said that as Siregar has lost her status as KPK deputy head, the KPK Ethics Code is no longer enforceable against her, and the action against her must be considered moot.

Last August, KPK Supervisory Council had penalized Siregar with a 40-percent basic salary cut after she was proven guilty of abusing her position as KPK deputy head by engaging in direct contact with Tanjungbalai Mayor M. Syahrial, who was being investigated by the KPK at the time.
