The high level document that will be agreed upon will serve as a work reference for the world on how to eradicate corruption
Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Head Firli Bahuri here on Tuesday, underscored the important role played by auditors in helping law enforcement authorities to eradicate and prevent corruption.

To this end, the Indonesian delegation, led by KPK, leads the discussion on bolstering the role of audit in eradicating corruption during the second Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) meeting held here on July 5-8, 2022.

As quoted from the G20 website, ACWG is part of the G20 working group that seeks to set minimum common standards between legal systems of the G20 countries as a means to prevent and combat corruption.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

If auditors perform well, embezzlement of state funds would not occur. Hence, audit is utilized to eradicate and prevent corruption, he told ANTARA.

Bolstering the role of the auditor in eradicating corruption is one of the three priority issues that Indonesia raises during the ACWG.

At the first ACWG meeting, the issue received support from all G20 delegations to enter the high level principle (HLP) discussion stage in order to produce a policy document that binds G20 members.

"The high level document that will be agreed upon will serve as a work reference for the world on how to eradicate corruption," the KPK chief noted on the sidelines of the second ACWG meeting.

Bahuri, who attended the first HLP meeting on the audit's role, Tuesday, said he is optimistic that delegations will agree on principles that will be summarized within the policy document.

"Earlier, I attended the discussion. Delegations from nine countries attended physically, 10 countries that (attended) virtually, and one entity, the European Union, joined the discussion," he remarked.

"Alhamdulillah, (praise be to God), it seems that the focal point (priority issue) that Indonesia raises can be agreed upon and formulated," he noted.

Results of the ACWG meeting, specifically the third ACWG meeting, will feature a declaration event planned to be held in Australia in September 2022.

The last ACWG meeting is held in Australia, as the country also assumes the mantle of Co-Chair along with Indonesia this year.

"Let us hope that what we (Indonesia) provide will be beneficial for corruption eradication, not just for Indonesia but also for the world," Bahuri remarked.

During the second ACWG meeting, G20 delegations will discuss the policy document draft for bolstering the role of audit in eradicating corruption.

Discussion on the draft's content is held on July 5-7, 2022.
