We laud (Banksasuci) that supports efforts to achieve the national waste reduction target by 35 percent and 70 percent of plastic waste by 2025 (to mitigate the impacts of floods)Jakarta (ANTARA) - Residents must commit to environmental sustainability through proper waste management to address climate change and control flooding, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno stated.
Uno cited the example of the Cisadane River Waste Bank (Banksasuci) in Tangerang District, Banten, as one institution that plays a role in enhancing waste management and controlling floods in its region.
"We laud (Banksasuci) that supports efforts to achieve the national waste reduction target by 35 percent and 70 percent of plastic waste by 2025 (to mitigate the impacts of floods)," Uno stated during his visit to the Cisadane River Waste Bank, Sunday.
The minister emphasized that flood control is essential in various flood-prone areas, such as Jakarta and West Java.

"We also express our utmost condolences regarding the flooding that occurs in various areas in West Java and the Greater Jakarta region," Uno said in connection with the recent floods that occurred on Saturday (July 16).
The waste bank will serve as a creative corner and an ecotourism destination in Banten where tourists arriving from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport could make a short visit, he remarked.
The minister noted that tourists visiting the waste bank could plant mangrove trees to balance their carbon footprint as calculated by the ministry.
"Banksasuci is a complete tourism destination. There are some creative products made of drifting trash, then a jeans trouser recreated into a flower pot, and a wood piece decorated to make an ornament," Uno stated.

Meanwhile, Tangerang District Head Ahmad Zaki noted that waste management and reduction posed significant challenges to Indonesia.
The district authority is committed to modernising landfills to enhance waste management and climate change handling efforts in Tangerang, he added.
"Waste management will lead to the development of new and renewable energy for our electric steam power plant or become a coal replacement for our power plants," Zaki remarked.
