Jakarta (ANTARA) - Young forest rangers who manage and take care of forests have an important role in the forestry sector, secretary general of the Environment and Forestry Ministry, Bambang Hendroyono, has said.

"The current significant number of millennials, Gen X, and Gen Z will be the key to a productive (generation of) human resources in Indonesia for the future. So, it is important to pay attention to the role of young people," he added in a statement received here on Monday.

Speaking at the “2022 Sylva Indonesia National Working Meeting and Seminar” in Yogyakarta on Monday, he said that the event could serve as a platform to encourage young foresters to become initiators, actors, motivators, catalysts, and even educators for promoting current and future forestry development.

Amid the demands of competition in the global era, awareness on improving forestry human resources for building an advanced Indonesia is crucial, he explained.

In keeping with globalization that demands changes and adjustment, a change in leadership is needed at all sectors and levels of organizations, including the forestry sector, he argued.

Therefore, he expressed the hope that forestry human resources will become more responsive and collaborative by innovating in the form of making breakthroughs so that they can become more competitive globally.

"Eventually, the leadership will become much more productive. We know it as transglobal leadership," the secretary general remarked.

Furthermore, he also highlighted the need for model leadership behavior to yield permanent solutions to problems.

On March 16, 2022, Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, had acted as the inspector of ceremonies at the online commemoration of the 39th Forester Service Day.

The ceremony was joined by foresters from the Protected Forest Management Unit of Biak, Biak Bird Park, and Biak Orchid Park, Papua province.
