Through this seminar, we hope that our industry tenants can have knowledge about the environment, so they can improve productivity and have global-class competitivenessCikarang, Kabupaten Bekasi (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry hosted a seminar on eco-industrial parks (EIPs) for the managements of industrial zones.at Maxxbox Orange County Lippo Cikarang in Bekasi district, West Java,on Monday. The seminar featured the ministry;s Director of Industrial Zoning Adie Rochmanto Pandiangan and two other speakers - chief technical adviser to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization Salil Dutt and Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Ulsan College, Korea, Hung-Suck Park.
During the seminar, Pandiangan said that an eco-industrial park could improve the economic performance of industries within its scope through the pursuit of efforts to minimize the environmental impact.
In order to establish such a place, industries within an area would also need to contribute to the efforts--not just the management. He said he expects that 75 percent of industrial zones in Indonesia would be considered eco-industrial parks by 2027.

"Through this seminar, we hope that our industry tenants can have knowledge about the environment, so they can improve productivity and have global-class competitiveness," Head of Community Industrial Services Sue Eunike Marlene, said after the seminar.
All managements of industrial zones who were invited to the seminar expressed their enthusiasm and keenly followed all topics discussed or brought up by the speakers, she added.
"The managements are very happy because the eco-industrial park seminar was hosted," she said.
An eco-industrial park is an industrial area that is managed on the basis of a collaboration between the industry and people for economic and social benefits and improved environmental performance, Dutt said.

"Some advantages from eco-industrial park implementation include motivator in facing challenges, to enable industries to involve in exports better, encouraging industries to come up with innovations, as well as giving positive impacts on fund efficiency," he said.
The seminar was also attended by three representatives of companies that have already implemented the eco-industrial park concept, such as PT Schneider Electric Manufacturing, PT ABB Sakti Industri, and PT Asahimas Chemical. They shared their experiences with EIP in their operations.
Through this sharing of experiences, industry tenants were expected to learn and implement those measures in their own companies.
The representative from PT Schneider Electric Manufacturing, Devina Satyapraba Raditya, said that her company has applied digital technology to monitor the use of energy and waste dumping.
"This use of digital technology can (help) conduct evaluation as well as reduce excess use of energy," she said.
