We should maintain this momentum, so that the trend continues to increase in the third and fourth quarter of 2022Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, here on Monday, urged all stakeholders to maintain the momentum of positive performance that the transportation sector managed to achieve in 2022.
According to the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, the transportation and warehousing sector managed to grow 21.27 percent in the second quarter of 2022 as compared to the same period last year (year-on-year/yoy).
Travel condition policy relaxation and traffic model management handing during this year's Eid homecoming also became factors that encouraged positive growth of the transportation sector, he noted.
Earlier, in the first quarter of 2022, the sector also recorded positive growth of up to 15.79 percent.
"This result indicates that recovery has occurred in the transportation sector that we had undergone together," he explained.
"We should maintain this momentum, so that the trend continues to increase in the third and fourth quarter of 2022," he stated.
The minister noted that since the start of 2022, he had readied several strategies to expedite recovery of the transportation sector affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The minister outlined these strategies during the national transportation sector work meeting last February.
These include optimizing the implementation of non-state budget funding through the Public-Private Partnership (KPBU) to meet the requirement of the transportation infrastructure.
Moreover, these strategies involve optimizing Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) through the General Service Agency (BLU) as one of the alternative funding sources to expedite infrastructure development.
In addition, the minister encouraged involvement of the private sector in expediting national economic growth and conducting structural and digitalization transformation to improve transportation services.
The ministry will also continue to bolster collaboration with stakeholders, specifically ministries or institutions, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), private sector, academicians, the media, and public to maintain this positive momentum.
This is deemed crucial in the efforts to handle several challenges that exist in the transportation sector.
These challenges comprise state budget fiscal limitation, increasing funding demand for transportation infrastructure, and suboptimal integrated transportation service.
Other challenges posed involve low awareness toward transportation safety and the development of eco-friendly sustainable transportation to handle the issue of global warming and climate change.
"In the third and fourth quarter, we will utilize the momentum of Independence Day through a collective spirit to recover faster and revive stronger," Sumadi affirmed.
