Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government has signed a cooperation agreement with a consultancy firm to support the implementation of an electronic-based government system and digital transformation in the local area.

There are many matters in Jakarta that can be handled more effectively and efficiently if they are processed digitally or through automation, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday.

The scope of the cooperation between the provincial government and the consultancy firm involves assistance in the administration of the electronic-based government system in the province.

It also concerns guidance on the electronic-based government system’s management as well as accelerated assistance in electronic-based government system’s maintenance.

Further, the cooperation entails monitoring and evaluation of the electronic-based government system’s maintenance.

Baswedan said he expects Jakarta to serve as a pilot project for the company so that a similar model can be implemented in other regions.

Given that there are many moving parts involved in implementing the system in Jakarta, other cities are expected to find it easier to adopt the system in the future, he noted.

He said he also expects the private entity's existence to provide encouragement so that digital transformation can proceed quickly and result in the advancement of Jakarta and service improvement for residents.

"As a result, we can develop a better and faster city, starting from internal part to service to the public," he remarked.

The Jakarta provincial government inked a four-year agreement with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Consulting Indonesia and will continue the cooperation through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) concerning the provision of technical support to Jakarta.

The governor said that the company, which operates in several countries, has the best experience and practice for the project.

Digital government is among the four strategic sectors included in Indonesia's digital road map for 2021–2024. The other three comprise digital infrastructure, digital economy, and digital society.
