Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) has launched the Cyber Threat Intelligence Program (CTIP) in cooperation with a private technology major to tackle cybercrime in Indonesia.

The program aims to strengthen the security of the country's infrastructure against recent threats observed in Indonesia's digital space, BSSN's Deputy for Cybersecurity and Encryption Operations Major General Dominggus Pakel said in a press release issued on Wednesday.

"Through this collaboration, we hope to increase Indonesia's cybersecurity guarantees for all sectors, be it government, vital information infrastructure, the digital economy, and society. It is hoped that this partnership will help overcome the increasing threats and cyberattacks or cybercrimes that are occurring in Indonesia," he said.

Based on Presidential Regulation Number 28 of 2021, BSSN is carrying out duties in the field of encryption and cybersecurity, which include operations involving the identification, detection, protection, response, recovery, and monitoring of cybersecurity and national encryption, as well as national cyber crisis management.

As per data from the National Security Operations Center (NSOC), in 2021, BSSN recorded around 1.6 billion traffic anomalies or cyberattacks in Indonesia.

The figure reflected a three-fold increase compared to 2020, with the anomalies ranging from malware and trojan activity to information gathering.

For CTIP, BSSN is cooperating with Microsoft, which has been in the technology industry, including cybersecurity, for decades.

The partnership between BSSN and Microsoft is expected to strengthen BSSN's work, especially in the field of cyber threat intelligence and malware analysis.

Under the cooperation, BSSN will get cyber intelligence from Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) in the form of information via its platform.

It will also get access to the CTIP threat intelligence sharing program that could be used to share cyber threat information, as well as information on malware and botnet disruption operations carried out by Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit, including data feeds related to malware infections and compromised infrastructure.
