The spirit of collaboration must continue to be enhanced to accelerate the integration in public services in the general system or work culture aspects
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Corruption in bureaucracy poses a hindrance to the performance of public services that must be prevented by all means, according to Mahfud MD, the acting State Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister.

"Our old bureaucracy culture aims to seek pleasure from the residents' difficulties. If a resident asks for service, they are told to wait, then told to come again in two days, and two days later (the service) is not done yet. However, when they receive a bribe, they will complete the task promptly. This is a corrupt bureaucracy that hinders public service, even though a country is founded to serve the people instead of being served," Mahfud stated in his press statement here, Saturday.

The acting minister's statement was made while officiating Public Service Malls (MPPs) in four cities and districts in South Sulawesi, Friday (August 19).

Mahfud who concurrently the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs then reminded the state apparatus that they are servants of the people that must not expect to be served by them.

Mahfud said that cross-sectoral government agencies from the central and regional authorities, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations have consolidated themselves at public service malls to present a convenient, quick, secure, and convenient public service.

"The spirit of collaboration must continue to be enhanced to accelerate the integration in public services in the general system or work culture aspects," he stated.

Relevant authorities must also play an active role to realize simple and integrated bureaucracy provided at public service malls, the acting minister remarked.

"Roles of public service providers and leaders are essential to initiate a collaboration governance work culture to diminish sectoral selfishness. This collaboration can encourage innovation and modernization in the public services sector to cater to residents' expectations," Mahfud remarked.
