Jakarta (ANTARA) - The murder of Brigadier J at the official residence of former chief of the National Police's professional and security division, Ferdy Sambo, was an extra-judicial killing, the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) said.

"The murder of Brigadier J (in Jakarta on July 8, 2022) was an extra-judicial killing," Komnas HAM commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara said while reading out the rights body's conclusions and recommendations regarding the murder, in Jakarta on Thursday.

The results of the first and second autopsies had indicated that Brigadier J was not tortured but shot to death.

"As we have mentioned earlier, the cause of his death was two gunshot wounds. One was on his chest and the other one on his head,” he said.

In its conclusion, Komnas HAM also referred to the strong allegations of sexual violence made by Putri Candrawathi, Ferdy Sambo's wife, against Brigadier J in Magelang, Central Java, on July 7.

In addition, the rights body concluded that there was obstruction of justice in the handling and disclosure of Brigadier J's death.

In its recommendations to the National Police, Komnas HAM urged investigators to follow up on its findings and those of the National Commission for Women (Komnas Perempuan) to uphold the law.

It asked investigators to ensure that the process runs in an impartial, intervention-free, transparent, and accountable manner based on scientific crime investigation.

In addition, it also urged investigators to follow up on the allegation of sexual violence made by Putri Candrawathi.

"Of course, (they should) pay attention to the human rights principles and special vulnerability condition," Hapsara said.
