The price fluctuation is probably due to the uneven distribution and supply-demand conditions, as the production is greater than the demand.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan discussed attempts to increase the price of chicken at the farmers' level with several breeders from some associations and various poultry centers in Indonesia.

The farmers came from the Indonesian People's Poultry Association (Pinsar); Joint National Chicken Farmers Organization (Gopan); as well as representatives of breeders in West Java, Central Java, East Java, and other provinces.

In a statement here on Friday, the minister noted that the price of live chicken at the farmer level currently was between Rp14 thousand and Rp17 thousand per kilogram (kg), below the economic price of Rp21 thousand to Rp23 thousand per kg.

"The price fluctuation is probably due to the uneven distribution and supply-demand conditions, as the production is greater than the demand," he assessed.

Meanwhile, the national average price of broiler chicken at the retail level is around Rp33 thousand to Rp36 thousand per kg.

Hasan deemed it necessary to adjust the reference price set in Regulation of Trade Minister Number 7 of 2020 owing to a price adjustment due to the increase in logistics and chicken feed costs.

“The increase in feed prices is influenced by the increase in the price of its components, including soy bean meal (SBM). The price of SBM is currently starting to decline in line with the decline in the price of wheat, but it still tends to be high,” he noted.

As of August 30, 2022, the national price of broiler chicken at the retail level was recorded at Rp35 thousand per kg, declining by 0.28 percent as compared to the price in the previous week of Rp35,100 per kg as well as decreasing by 2.78 percent as compared to the price in the previous month of Rp36 thousand per kg.

Meanwhile, the price of broiler chicken at the farmer level was Rp18,670 per kg, declining by 10.3 percent as compared to Rp20,820 per kg in the previous week and decreasing by 8.8 percent, from Rp20,480 per kg in the previous month.
