Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has developed a new scheme pertaining to overtime incentives for civil servants at the ministry following the new work patterns applied during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Business processes and ways of working are very important to be changed. This new work pattern from the finance minister can be seen from the workspace that is now digitally designed," the minister remarked during a meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives here on Monday.

Indrawati explained that the office hours of the ministry's employees were more flexible during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, the timing was from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, though now, it could also go up to 11 p.m. local time.

The longer office hours was due to several meetings conducted in the evenings, so the employees had to increase their hours.

“Now, we can meet each other in the evenings after dinner at home, so we can work longer hours although it seems like the physical activity is not like what it used to be," she stated.

Although employees held virtual meetings or did overtime, these would still affect the ministry in designing the rewards and punishments system.

"Things like this will give rise to thoughts on how the incentive system should be designed in accordance with changes in flexible working hours and working places," Indrawati noted.

Moreover, her administration had actually made various reforms in the ministry's work system, as a means to support the work-life balance of its employees, she remarked.

The reforms included establishing a satellite office, so that employees could work without having to come to their respective offices.

This satellite office was available at the regional office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise Banten, the STAN Polytechnic of State Finance Complex in South Tangerang, as well as the State Property and Auction Service Office in Bekasi.

“This means that our employees (living) in suburban areas can work in satellite offices. This greatly reduces their (travel time), and in terms of work-life balance, it is also better,” she concluded.
