Various efforts to make things better should be supported. Moreover, this is related to the world of education, which is one of the ways for this nation to develop its human resources
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public support is needed for efforts to make the student selection process of state universities more fair and transparent, Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat has said.

"Various efforts to make things better should be supported. Moreover, this is related to the world of education, which is one of the ways for this nation to develop its human resources," she said in a written statement here on Thursday.

Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, had on Wednesday (September 7, 2022) announced the change in the selection system for the nationwide state university entrance examination (SBMPTN), which will now not include subject tests.

Under the new system, it is hoped that the student selection process of state universities will be more inclusive and fair.

According to Moerdijat, the change in the student selection system must be based on careful consideration so that it can address existing problems.

She expressed the hope that the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology will be open to inputs regarding the new state university student selection system so that the national education system can be made more perfect.

"Because education is not only aimed at building human resources from the intellectual perspective through teaching various sciences, it is also obligatory to instill noble values that can become the basis for good behavior among students through the system that is applied," she remarked.

However, a proper system needs human resources with high integrity to run it, she pointed out.

"Without high integrity, the implementation of the system will always face various challenges," she said.

Therefore, in addition to efforts to improve existing systems, efforts must be made to improve the integrity of the implementers, she added.

She further said she hoped that the improvement of the national education system would continue to be pursued and supported by all parties as part of the country's efforts to build human resources with character and competitiveness in order to answer various challenges.
