Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo is making efforts to ensure that public transport operators in the province receive compensation in the wake of the recent increase in fuel prices.

"Public transportation drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers, both online and conventional, must indeed be paid attention to and be included in the calculation to get assistance and compensation due to the increase in fuel prices because they are among those who are also affected firsthand," he said in Semarang on Monday.

The Central Java government has prepared special funds to address the impact of inflation and the increase in fuel prices, 2 percent of which have been sourced from the provincial government’s general transfer funds of Rp22.7 billion, he informed.

Additionally, around Rp17.98 billion has been allocated for Central Java public transportation operator Transjateng in tariff subsidies for six corridors for the October–December 2022 period.

Further, a budget of around Rp22.8 billion has been prepared to handle the impact of inflation on the unexpected expenditure of the Central Java government, of which around Rp12.7 billion has been set aside for providing social assistance for 4,224 public transport crew members and 17 thousand online motorcycle taxi drivers in the province.

"My task now is to ensure that they can work well, can get enough sustenance, God willing, and then stabilize prices in the field," Governor Pranowo stated.

He also appealed to people who can be considered to be affluent to refrain from buying subsidized fuel following the increase in fuel oil prices.

"In terms of fuel supply, it's alright; but earlier, affluent people were able to buy Pertalite, even though we know it should be for those who can't afford it," he pointed out.
