We also agreed on what assessment tool will be used. We agreed that the instrument is to measure how far each country's policies favor the disability group
Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The 6th G20 Employment Working Group (EWG) meeting has agreed on an assessment instrument to measure policies that favor people with disabilities.

"We also agreed on what assessment tool will be used. We agreed that the instrument is to measure how far each country's policies favor the disability group," Secretary General of the Manpower Ministry Anwar Sanusi stated after the 6th EWG meeting in Jimbaran, here, on Tuesday.

The G20 Employment Working Group, under the G20 Indonesia's Sherpa Track, aims to raise several priority issues, including the development of capacity of human resources, social protection in the working environment, and equal opportunities for people with disabilities.

Sanusi affirmed that one of the instruments is the number of workers with disabilities in the private and public sectors. For Indonesia, this step has been realized through Law No. 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities.

The law stipulates an obligation to employ disabled people to constitute at least two percent of the total workforce for the public sector and one percent for the private sector.

"We will try to see the (outcome) in 2024 because we will evaluate this every four years," Sanusi stated.

In addition, inclusive job creation is one of the issues raised by Indonesia's G20 Presidency at the EWG meeting that will later be discussed further at the Labor and Employment Ministers Meeting (LEMM) on Wednesday, September 14.

The issue of an inclusive job market was raised to ensure that workers with disabilities could avail the same opportunities as other workers.

Sanusi deems this to be an urgency, as the COVID-19 pandemic has acutely impacted the labor sector, especially workers with disabilities.

The secretary general also highlighted that Indonesia is the first G20 country that pushes efforts to realize affirmative actions for persons with disabilities.
