Jakarta (ANTARA) - The new model of state university enrollment will motivate aspiring students to study more seriously, Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology at the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry Professor Nizam said.

"Currently, our team is preparing the 2023 state university enrollment test. The admission will be divided into several paths, including the achievement path," he informed in Jakarta on Thursday.

In the achievement path, the assessment will be based on the students’ report cards (50 percent) and subjects of the students’ choice (50 percent), he added.

"We hope this requirement will challenge and motivate children to do their best in the subjects they like," he said.

Meanwhile, the test path will assess the critical thinking and reasoning skills of students based on a scholastic test.

"Our teams at state universities are preparing sample questions, grids, and others. As usual, the whole announcement will be made in December," Nizam informed.

The next enrollment path will involve independent selection. In this way, the government will arrange for the selection to be held more transparently by requiring state universities to prepare several things before and after the selection process independently.

Prior to the independent selection, state universities will be required to announce several things, including the number of prospective students who will be accepted for each study program/faculty and the assessment method for prospective students, which will consist of independent tests.

Furthermore, state universities will be required to collaborate in conducting the tests through a consortium, utilize the scores from the results of the national selection based on tests, as well as other required assessment methods for prospective students.

After the independent selection, state universities will be required to announce the number of participants who passed the selection and the remaining unfilled quota; a period of five working days after the announcement of the selection results; and procedures for rebutting the selection results.
