The Sultanate bestowed the honorary title "La Ode Muhammad Lakina Bhawaangi yi Nusantara" on the president to honour his noble personality, exemplary behavior, and commitment to delivering prosperity to all Indonesians.
"I wish to express my utmost gratitude to His Majesty the Buton Sultan, La Ode Muhammad Izat Manarfa, and all members of the Buton Sultanate customary institution that have bestowed the 'La Ode Muhammad Lakina Bhawaangi yi Nusantara' title on me," the president stated in Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, Tuesday, as per the statement from the Presidential Secretariat.
The president visited the Buton Palace Fortress and spent time performing the Dhuha prayer at the sultanate mosque before attending the ceremony at the sultanate palace.
While bestowing the title, Buton Sultan representative La Ode Muhamad Arsal read the statement to confer the honorary title to President Jokowi and admit him as the elder of the Sultanate.
"With the honorary title, Mr La Ode Muhammad Joko Widodo Lakina Bhawaangi yi Nusantara is inducted as a fellow and the elder among the Buton Sultanate peers," Arsal stated.
The honorary title also conveys the Buton Sultanate's hopes and expectations to the president, he said.
"We hope La Ode Joko Widodo would always honor the dignity of the former Buton Sultanate territory while residing in the capital of the Republic of Indonesia or any other places," the sultan representative remarked.
While departing from the sultanate palace after receiving the honour, Jokowi greeted residents, who waited for him outside the sultanate palace, and smiled when a resident called him by his new title.
The president continues his working visit in the region to Baubau Post Office to deliver direct cash assistance and wage assistance.
