For the Indonesian nation, peace and justice are the soul or heart to lead life within nationhood and statehood
Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The 5th Congress of World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ) on Wednesday highlighted the role of constitutional justices in contributing to creating global peace through the interpretation of each country's legal products and court verdicts.

The congress offered an opportunity to constitutional court and supreme court justices to share views to create peace and justice, Chief of the Indonesian Constitutional Court Anwar Usman noted in his keynote address to the congress to be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on October 5-6, 2022.

"For the Indonesian nation, peace and justice are the soul or heart to lead life within nationhood and statehood. The Indonesian constitution is inspired by the principles of peace and justice that are clearly mentioned in the first paragraph of the 1945 Constitution," he stated.

The preamble of the Constitution explicitly states that independence is the right of all nations and that colonialism on the planet must be eliminated, as it contradicts humanity and justice, he stated.

In the congress that brought together constitutional court and supreme court justices from 99 countries, Usman said the mandate of the 1945 Constitution lays a strong basis for the Indonesian policy not only to create peace and justice in Indonesia but also to actively contribute to global peace.

"Justice and peace in the world or in a country can be realized if the constitutional rights and human rights are fulfilled optimally and respect and mutual respect for a country are balanced," he stated.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Algerian Constitutional Court Omar Belhadj, in the capacity as chief of discussion, directed the discussion at the 5th WCCJ to not raise the issue of peace in a broad manner, but it should specifically discuss peace in a country and peace involving several countries.

As such, he affirmed that judges play a role in helping the conflicting parties to reconcile.
