"The theme of World Contraception Day 2022 is through collaboration with the Bangga Kencana Program to increase family planning participation and accelerate stunting reduction with work partners," Jambi Governor Al Haris stated here on Saturday.
The Bangga Kencana Program is the National Population and Family Planning Agency's (BKKBN's) program that aims to form quality families through planning and education.
"Let us increase cooperation and synergize through various policy strategies that are right on target in supporting the Bangga Kencana Program," Al Haris remarked.
The Jambi Provincial Government lauds the program's implementation as a form of commitment from BKKBN, policymakers, and partners related to family development, planning, and population.
The Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of Jambi Province in 2021 was 2.33 children per woman, while the province is targeting to reduce the rate to 2.2 children per woman. However, the rate of unfulfilled birth control needs in Jambi remains high, so several plans and strategies are needed to achieve the target.
"One needs to watch out for this because the uncontrolled birth rate will have a direct impact on various problems, such as maternal mortality, stunting, poverty, quality, and competitiveness of human resources," Al Haris remarked.
In the efforts to meet birth control needs, the BKKBN held the "TNI Manunggal Bangga Kencana – Integrated Health" that involves the Indonesian Military (TNI).
The governor also spotlighted the achievement of the Jambi Provincial BKKBN that ranks first nationally, at 278.94 percent.
Stunting, or stunted growth in children, is one of the national public health problems. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appointed BKKBN as a leading sector for accelerating stunting reduction in Indonesia to 14 percent by 2024.
