We are more conservative while for scientific evidences since this is very different (than the previous cases)Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry necessitates the pharmaceutical industry to ensure that the drugs it produces fulfill the quality standards, so that the impact of syrup drugs indicated to cause acute kidney injury will not recur.
"We are more conservative while for scientific evidences since this is very different (than the previous cases)," Head of the Public Communication Bureau at the Ministry Siti Nadia Tarmizi noted here, Wednesday.
The government will not hesitate to penalize the pharmaceutical industry that produces drugs with dangerous materials that can harm and even claimed patients' lives without caution.
In connection with the acute kidney injury cases, the government declared that two pharmaceutical industries will be penalized since there are indications that they produce syrup drugs with dangerous substances at high concentrations.

The ministry has temporarily banned the use of syrup drugs to prevent the increase in the number of acute kidney injury cases in Indonesia.
In August 2022, atypical progressive acute kidney injury cases reached 36. Those who suffer from the disease do not have symptoms and do not need medical treatment in the form of dialysis.
The ministry has collaborated with the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDIA) in the effort to handle acute kidney injury that affects children, given that the disease is categorized as new, Tarmizi stated.
"Thus, we seek to conduct prevention early while trying out various types of information," she remarked.

The ministry has, in fact, found ethylene glycol in the patients' blood and urine samples. However, the government cannot know yet for sure whether the level is toxic, as research is necessary for this.
The government imported the antidote Fomepizole from Singapore and Australia to save children from acute kidney injury disease.
"Currently, we are trying to reduce the fatality rate as low as we can and to prevent new cases," she noted.
