Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government commenced repairing the Great Mosque of the Jakarta Islamic Center (JIC) by gauging the impact of fire since the police line at the scene was taken off on November 7, 2022.

"Currently, the Jakarta Province Regional Asset Management Agency is reviewing the debris from the fire incident, which we have not cleaned up, as we are awaiting a decision," head of the JIC Area Management Secretariat Zulkifli Said noted on Wednesday.

If the debris is still an asset, then it will be kept.

"We keep it for auction. If not, we destroy it," he said.

Despite a fire incident on October 19, all worship activities at JIC continued as usual, he remarked.

"We conduct five daily prayers and Friday prayers at the JIC convention hall. We also provide a place for ablution," he stated.

Nonetheless, the provincial government continues to study the impact of the fire that struck a month back, he said. It is estimated that repairs will be costly due to heavy damage to the building.

At first glance, it was only the dome that was burnt, he stated. However, the impact of the collapse of the dome on the floor and other parts should be investigated further to determine the cost of repairs.

Until now, the repair costs are still being calculated. However, as a comparison, when the JIC Grand Mosque was originally built in 2001, the budget was Rp160 billion (US$10.2 million).

That amount was disbursed 21 years ago, he remarked. The cost for the repair will be studied in detail by the Jakarta Spatial Planning and Land Cipta Karya Office, he noted.

Hence, he has yet to know the estimated costs, although several parts of the JIC Grand Mosque were damaged.

"Currently, there is none (nominal of repair fee)," he stated.

However, physical repair is considered if the second and first floors have several parts that were damaged and might cause the materials to shift.

Said ensured that the provincial government would continue to monitor the place every week and also hosted several meetings regarding the review of reparation work.

Thus, neither the JIC management nor secretariat received any form of repair funds. All reparation work would be regulated by the provincial government.

"(It is) because JIC belongs to the Jakarta government. Of course, we truly laud the willingness of various parties, domestic and foreign, to donate to build the Jakarta Islamic Center (mosque) again," he noted.

"We pray that the Great Mosque of the Jakarta Islamic Center can be built soon and will be more beautiful than before," he concluded.
