Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry has continued its efforts to improve the competitiveness of small and medium cosmetics enterprises (SMEs) through programs such as machine and equipment restructuring.

Machine and equipment restructuring has become a program that cosmetic SMEs are interested in, an official from the Industry Ministry, Ni Nyoman Ambareny, stated during a discussion held at a Cosmetic Day 2022 event here on Saturday.

"This year is the biggest for cosmetics. Cosmetics SMEs are the ones that are utilizing this restructurization," she added.

Many cosmetics SMEs are interested in machine and equipment restructuring since the ministry is offering them a discount, she informed.

Under the program, the ministry is providing reimbursements to cosmetics SMEs who purchase machines or equipment for production.

The ministry is providing 40-percent reimbursement to cosmetics SMEs who purchase domestic machines or equipment. Meanwhile, for machines and equipment purchased from overseas, the ministry is providing 25-percent reimbursement.

To participate in the program, SMEs have to meet a number of requirements, such as getting business identification numbers (NIB) and taxpayer identification numbers (NPWP).

The request applications for reimbursements have to be uploaded on the ministry's National Industry Information System (SIINas).

The purchased machines should be in a new condition and have been installed at the factory or production location.

Once an application is uploaded, a verification team directly examines the accuracy of the data that the SMEs have provided.

"Later, the Indonesian Surveyor team will check whether the purchased machines or equipment are still new or not because based on our experiences, there were old machines painted as new," Ambareny informed.

This year, the ministry has allocated Rp5 billion for the program, she said.

In addition to machine and equipment restructuring, the ministry is also running a machine and equipment provision program for SMEs free of charge.

However, there are a number of requirements that have to be fulfilled to participate in the program, such as submitting a proposal to the Industry Office.

"This is quite difficult because you have to submit the proposal to us through the local Industry Office in a group. Thus, we can provide free machine aid for a business group comprising five SMEs," she explained.
