Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - A suicide bombing that hit Astanaanyar police office in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday, at around 8 a.m. local time, killed the perpetrator and one police officer and injured nine police officers and one civilian.

The suicide bomber was killed on the spot, and the civilian was crossing around the location when the bomb exploded, Chief of the West Java Police Inspector General Suntana stated here on Wednesday.

"Eleven people became victims, comprising 10 police officers and one civilian. A police officer, who was killed in the bombing, was First Inspector Sofyan," the police chief told the press.

The male suicide bomber used a motorcycle while conducting the attack that took place when police officers were attending a routine morning roll call.

The man was holding a knife while approaching officers and suddenly an explosion was heard, he remarked.

The police's mobile brigade was deployed to investigate the incident, and the area was tightly guarded.

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil appealed to residents of Bandung to stay calm, as the situation was under control.
