Padang Aro, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Solok branch office of the State-Owned Social Security Agency (BPJAMSOSTEK) has assured that the victims of a coal mine explosion that occurred in Sawahlunto city, West Sumatra province, on Friday will get optimal treatment.

“The quick response service (LCT) teams of Solok BPJAMSOSTEK have visited the location of the incident and the hospital (where the victims are being treated) after receiving information about the explosion to make sure that the victims are handled well," the office's Head Maulana Anshari Siregar, said on Friday.

The visits made by the LCT teams were aimed at ensuring that the medical services provided to the victims during the critical period were in accordance with their rights as social security participants, he informed. The victims are BPJAMSOSTEK participants, he added.

He said that the agency will immediately coordinate with the related parties to expedite the payment of work accident claims so that the social security benefits can be disbursed soon, including compensations for deceased workers.

In addition to cash compensation, the children of deceased workers will also get educational scholarships up to the college level, which will be offered for a maximum of two children.

The BPJAMSOSTEK officer said that his office is also coordinating with the Work Accident Service Centers (PLKKs) in Solok district, Bukittinggi city, and Padang city to prepare for the medical treatment referral process, if required, to get the best treatment for the victims.

The operator of the coal mine, PT Perusahaan Nusa Alam Lestari (PT NAL), has been a participant of the Workers Social Security Program of BPJAMSOSTEK Solok since November 2012 with 336 registered workers.

Separately, head of the public relations division of the National Police, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, said on Friday that the mining explosion occurred around 9 a.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).

Five injured survivors and four dead bodies were evacuated from the mine pit, he informed. Meanwhile, six more workers were still in the pit.
