Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expects that provision of the Dumai, Rokan Hilir, and Bengkalis Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM Durolis) that he recently inaugurated can reduce incidents of diseases caused by uncooked drinking water.

The head of state inaugurated the SPAM Durolis in Rokan Hilir District, Riau, Thursday, which currently has a drinking water capacity of 400 liters per second.

"I hope that with the construction of SPAM Durolis, the quality of drinking water for the community will be better. It will also reduce many factors, such as stunting and certain diseases caused by uncooked drinking water in the community," the president noted in a press statement after the inauguration procession as broadcast from the Presidential YouTube channel.

According to Jokowi, similar drinking water supply system facilities were needed in all Indonesian provinces that were still experiencing difficulties in fulfilling their clean water requirements.

The head of state noted that SPAM Durolis is a quite large drinking water supply system, with raw water intake from Rokan River.

"Rokan River is a big river, and it can supply to the two districts of Rokan Hilir and Bengkalis and also Dumai City," he stated.

Earlier, in his remarks delivered at the inauguration procession, Jokowi noted that SPAM Durolis was built with a budget of Rp396.6 billion and has optimal capability of supplying water to 32 thousand house connections (SR) in the three areas.

On a separate occasion, Head of the regional drinking water company (PAM) in Rokan Hilir, Zulkarnain, stated that SPAM Durolis could be developed to a maximum flow capacity of 1,550 liters per second.

Currently, SPAM Durolis has been connected to 4,190 houses in Rokan Hilir, 1,800 houses in Dumai, and 5,100 houses in Bengkalis.

Accompanying the president during the inauguration were Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono; State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir; and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
