"I thank BPJS Ketenagakerjaan for consistently providing guaranteed protection to all workers. Even so, I ask that the disbursement time be accelerated," he said here on Monday.
According to him, worker's social security is the best solution to protect workers' families and close ones in case of a work accident that leads to death.
On Monday, Moeldoko and all KSP staff, together with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's director of participation, Zainudin, handed over death compensation to the heir of Sandjaja, a security personnel at KSP who died on duty last year.
Sandjaja, who joined KSP in 2015, left behind a wife and a 4-year-old daughter. His family received a compensation of Rp342 million and an educational scholarship was provided for his daughter to allow her to continue her education up to the college level.
"All workers have a huge contribution to an organization or company. We laud everyone who has worked well. Even so, I urge all staff, be it informal workers or professionals, to participate in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan," Moeldoko stressed.
Meanwhile, Zainudin said that almost 70 percent of informal and honorary workers, including farmers, fishers, and transportation sector workers, have joined the workers' social security program.
However, not all informal workers at ministries/central government agencies have registered for the program because the regulations related to this matter are unclear.
"We continue to focus on encouraging the participation of informal workers. Currently, according to the record, only about 13.5 percent of informal workers are being protected," Zainudin said.
According to him, the coverage needs to be increased for Indonesia to become the largest Asian country to protect informal workers.
