"The establishment of such a resolution and the mechanism of the inauguration of the president and/or the vice president must be regulated through a law on MPR RI and MPR RI rules of procedure that will be drafted by the MPR Research Body and Constitutional Research Commission," MPR RI Speaker Bambang Soesatyo stated after the MPR RI Leadership Meeting here Monday.
The law and the rules of procedure are targeted to be complete by the next six months, he affirmed.
Soesatyo said that according to the MPR RI Research Body, the direct election of the president and the vice president does not diminish the legislature's function to name and inaugurate the president- and vice president-elect.
"Before executing their duties as president and vice president, they must be designated and inaugurated by the MPR RI, according to its constitutional authority, after being named as the victors by the KPU in the election," he added.
The speaker said that the law on MPR RI would also regulate State Policy Guidelines (PPHN) and the establishment of the assembly's honorary court to enforce the parliamentary ethics code besides the presidential inauguration.
Moreover, the same law would recognize the MPR RI Annual Session on August 16, 2023, as a distinct session outside the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) annual sessions, as well as mandate the names of MPR RI speaker and deputy speakers designated at an MPR RI resolution instead of minutes.
