Director of music, film, and animation of digital economy and creative products department at the ministry Mohammad Amin stated that the workshop, hosted in Kotagede, Yogyakarta, on March 3-5, was part of the 2023 Monthly Film Festival Program.
"The activity aims to guide and hone the creativity of young talents we have. It is not merely a form of commendation and support, but this workshop aims to facilitate, allow access, and encourage local filmmakers (to make) works that (can get on the level of the) professional industry," Amin noted in an official statement received on Tuesday.
The workshop served as a platform for local filmmakers to do networking, so as to create a new generation of filmmakers that will improve the national industry, he stated.
For a period of three days, the participants will learn from film industry players, such as producers, directors, production designers, and editors.
The speakers include film producers Ajish Dibyo and Jeihan Angga, director Wahyu Utami, art director Ong Hari Wahyu, and film editor Greg Arya.
The participants are representatives of 20 film communities that won in the first batch of the Monthly Film Festival in February 2023.
The participants were also taught on making film proposals and pitching business ideas.
Participant with the best proposal will be rewarded with funding from FlipFlop Tv, a platform for local creators to establish their works.
Dibyo stated that proactive participants in the workshop make the event a fun experience.
"Some of them maybe seem like they were surprised, but eager to learn, have the will to improve, and I think it is very great," Dibyo noted.
One of the participants, Umar Al Jufri, a member of the MM Kine Club UMY, stated that the program was immensely useful, as it offers new insights into film producing.
"(It is) because many workshops out there are more (inclined) towards technical aspects, such as camera, lighting, and sounds. And in Yogya itself, a workshop about film producing is rare," he stated.
A representative of the Solo Code 103 community, Trisna Kurniawan, seconded the opinion.
"Here, there are many things I can learn, one of which is making film proposal and storytelling," he noted.
