The TB-DM screening service is being carried out not only simultaneously, but also periodically, head of disease prevention and control at the office Hermayani said here on Friday.
The service will be provided in two phases, namely in March–August and October–December. "The two phases are predicted to be able to target around 38 thousand people in Tangerang city," she said.
According to her, the TB-DM screening service has been opened simultaneously at 37 community health centers (puskesmas) in the city.
The service is deemed crucial, especially for people with issues related to immunity, such as tuberculosis (TB), diabetes mellitus (DM), HIV, and stunting patients, as well as people with certain health risks.
"In the service, TB and DM patients in each puskesmas receive a referral (service) and intensive examination facilities. It is carried out at 34 referral hospitals that have been determined," she said.
"Patients will receive several special services, such as X-rays of the lungs, treatment from specialists, and further handling until the treatment stage (under the service),” she expounded.
The community is expected to make the most of the service considering that based on the 1990–2017 data, the number of Indonesian people with TB and DM increased significantly by 45.1 percent for TB and 157.1 percent for DM.
She expressed the hope that through the service, the need for TB awareness can be promoted among the community and everyone can give full attention to patients' recovery.
She added that the service is being provided free of charge to the community.
