Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nusantara Capital Authority Head Bambang Susantono has said two mechanisms of forest status relinquishment and land procurement are being employed to secure the 256 thousand hectares of land needed for the new capital.

"Some 65 percent of the 256 thousand hectares (of land), or almost two-per-thirds of it, are tropical forests. Hence, reforestation will take place in many places in the future capital site," he informed during a hearing meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR), which was observed through online means here on Monday.

Buildings and facilities will be constructed only on 25 percent of the 256 thousand hectares of land in Nusantara, consistent with its development master plan, which includes nine economic generators for the new capital, he said.

The new capital’s development is expected to build Nusantara as a super hub to help realize equitable economic and Indonesia-centric development by 2045.

"And the new capital will be the super hub to realize that," Susantono said.

He disclosed that at least 36,150.03 hectares of forests, which would be relinquished for the new capital’s development, are still under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's control.

The handover of the forest area from the ministry to the new capital authority will be sealed in the handover report, he added.

"The integrated team was working on the verification process last week, helping to process the 36 thousand (hectares of land) until it acquires the clean and clear status before its handover to our side," the capital authority head explained.

After the handover, Susantono said that the Finance Ministry will register the land area as a state-owned property (BMN) and asset under control (ADP), and developments over it will proceed according to its purpose written in the relevant regulations.
