Tourism offices are encouraged to directly monitor (the situation) at tourism destinations, do not only wait for the reports at their offices...
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has projected that people’s mobility during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming period will contribute Rp100 trillion to Rp150 trillion (US$6.6 billion to US$9.9 billion) to the economy.

At “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno” here on Monday, he said that his ministry is expecting 300 to 350 million domestic tourist visits during the 2023 Eid al-Fitr collective leave and holidays, which have been scheduled by the government from April 19 to 25.

The number is 25 percent of the 1.4 billion domestic tourist visits targeted for 2023, the minister noted.

Hence, his ministry will coordinate with regional apparatuses and stakeholders to optimize the holiday period and increase the revenue of national tourism by maintaining Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) as well as the security of tourism destinations.

The ministry will issue a circular to all regional tourism offices to ensure the preparedness of the destinations as well as to maintain the health protocols implemented at tourism attractions, Uno said.

Furthermore, regional governments are also expected to establish a task force involving all regional governmental apparatus institutions (OPD) to monitor the activities of tourists.

"Tourism offices are encouraged to directly monitor (the situation) at tourism destinations, do not only wait for the reports at their offices, (and) to carry out evaluation (of the destinations) since there will be an increase in the number of visitors,” Uno said.

Local governments must ensure that tourist attractions provide comfortable and enjoyable services, he emphasized.

His party is also coordinating with the Traffic Corps of the National Police to map the locations that may experience traffic jams during the homecoming period to prepare traffic engineering plans as well as portable traffic signs and instructions.

The minister also urged homecoming travelers, whose number is estimated to reach 123.8 million, to help revive the local economy by visiting local tourism destinations as well as buying local culinary and creative economy products.
