One of the merchants, Arwan Iwan, 51, said he felt grateful over the President visiting his stall and giving him cash aid.
“He (the President) shakes my hand, then he gives me an envelope; Alhamdulillah, I am so grateful," he said at Johar Baru Market on Wednesday.
Iwan said that President Jokowi gave him Rp1.2 million in capital assistance.
The President also distributed cash to other merchants in the market, while inspecting the stocks and prices of food commodities there.
After inspecting the market, he distributed packages of groceries, such as cooking oil, rice, biscuits, and sugar, to hundreds of residents living around Johar Baru Market and Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management Officers (PPSUs) who had been waiting for him since 8 in the morning.
Besides Johar Baru market, the President will also inspect Rawamangun Market to ensure that food stocks and prices remain under control ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijriah
During his visit, the President was accompanied by Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan; acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono; and Director General of Domestic Trade Kasan.
