Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo has asked the relevant stakeholders to pay attention to rights and responsibilities related to the provision of health services while discussing the Health Bill.

"(I) ask all relevant stakeholders to, first, in deliberating the Health Bill, pay attention to rights and responsibilities in the provision of health (services), namely everyone has the right to access health services that are of quality, equitable, and without discrimination," he said in a written statement received on Tuesday.

Soesatyo also underscored people’s right to access health information, namely the right to obtain information and education from medical and health personnel.

The right is deemed essential considering that health information is one of the vital aspects that need to receive the attention of various stakeholders.

He also asked for the role of the central government and regional governments to be regulated properly through the Health Bill.

"This is because the provision of good health services for the community is not only the responsibility of the central government but also regional governments," he added.

According to him, the deliberation and the drafting of the bill must really pay attention to the fulfillment of the provision of health services for the community, such as the management of risk factors, the surveillance function in the context of prevention, and the surveillance function in the context of enforcement.

"This is because there has been a judgment that the Health Bill currently has not maximized the role of the government in carrying out efforts for the management of risk through the surveillance function comprehensively," he noted.

Regarding the drafting of the Health Bill, he highlighted the importance of involving representatives of doctors and other health workers in drafting and continuing the deliberations.

"This is so that the Health Bill can accommodate all the polemics in the health sector without abandoning the values or code of ethics in the health sector," the MPR Speaker said.
