With this reliable system, we are optimistic that it will not only support the implementation of the ASEAN Summit (in 2023), but also help increase the economic productivity of the local community in the future.Kupang, NTT (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity provider PT PLN has set up a control center on Flores Island to ensure power supply reliability during the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.
“The establishment of this control center facility (Flores Control Center) will strengthen the electricity system on Flores Island, thus it will be ready to support the implementation of the ASEAN Summit,” the general manager of PLN’s Main Unit of NTT, I Gede Agung Sindu Putra, informed here on Monday.
Indonesia, which is holding the ASEAN chairmanship from January 1 to December 31, 2023, will host two summits this year.
The first ASEAN Summit will take place in Labuan Bajo from May 9 to 11, while the second one is scheduled to be held in Jakarta in September.
All electricity systems on Flores Island, which include a number of electricity stations, such as Labuan Bajo, Ruteng, Ende, Ropa, Maumere, and Larantuka, will be monitored through the control center, the general manager said.
He informed that the control center houses two facilities, namely the Regional Control Center (RCC) Flores and the Distribution Control Centre (DCC) Maumere.
“The RCC and DCC facilities are used to monitor and control all electricity systems in Flores Island for 24 hours,” he noted.
Furthermore, Putra informed that electricity for the summit would be supplied by gas, geothermal, diesel, solar, mini-hydro, and coal-fuelled power plants.
The electricity supply from those power plants is planned to be distributed using a 70-kilo volt (kV) and 150-kV high-voltage overhead power line (SUTT) as well as a 20-kV distribution grid, he said.
Earlier, the electricity system on Flores Island consisted of two systems, namely the West Flores System, which stretched from Labuan Bajo to Bajawa, Ngada District, and the East Flores System, which extended from Ende district to Maumere District, he noted.
However, the two systems have been connected since July 2021, he added.
"With this reliable system, we are optimistic that it will not only support the implementation of the ASEAN Summit (in 2023), but also help increase the economic productivity of the local community in the future," he added.
