This is necessary to collect data and to prevent the urbanization of residents that do not have a job and a permanent residence.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo has urged the central and regional governments to anticipate a rise in new arrivals from regions to Jakarta after this year’s Eid al-Fitr holiday.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Soesatyo said that this can be anticipated by improving the monitoring of residents.

In particular, village governments should be involved in the reporting of new residents or new arrivals.

"This is necessary to collect data and to prevent the urbanization of residents that do not have a job and a permanent residence," he said.

The Speaker also urged the Home Affairs Ministry, through Jakarta's Population and Civil Recording Office (Disdukcapil), to improve the data collection strategy for new arrivals.

"This can be done by encouraging and educating residents to comply with population administration," he said.

Soesatyo also asked the Jakarta provincial government to urge arrivals to ensure that they have a residence, employment, and the right skillset before deciding to come and stay in Jakarta.

Earlier, Jakarta's Disdukcapil estimated 40 thousand new arrivals to the capital city after the Eid al-Fitr, up 20 percent from 27 thousand new arrivals in 2022.

Jakarta's Disdukcapil is also collecting data on new arrivals in the capital for a month starting from April 25 until the end of May.

This data collection is targeted at two types of arrivals, namely arrivals who wish to stay and arrivals who will not stay permanently in Jakarta, Jakarta Disdukcapil head Budi Awaluddin informed at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

Awaluddin asked the new arrivals to report to the local neighborhood (RT/RW) government where they are staying before reporting to the Jakarta Disdukcapil.

A special form will be used to collect data on arrivals who enter Jakarta by involving RT/RWs in the related environment.
